The History of Water at the Table
Public lecture

VENICE GLASS WEEK

Venice Glass Week | 12-20 SEPTEMBER 2026

A lecture retracing the history of water at the dinner table.

From terracotta amphorae to designer bottles: the history of water at the table mirrors the evolution of our well-being. It was once a risky luxury, often replaced by wine and beer to avoid cholera and typhoid. Then came glass, purification, and the distinction between ‘still’ and ‘sparkling’. Today, water does not just quench our thirst—it dresses the table.

The lecture will conclude with a guided water tasting.
