THE VENICE GLASS WEEK
Venice Glass Week | 12-20 SEPTEMBER 2026
TRANSPARENT DOES NOT MEAN INVISIBLE
The history of water at the table. Symbols and transparency of an utterly essential presence.
A lecture retracing the history of water at the dinner table.
From terracotta amphorae and water gobelet to designer bottles: the history of water at the table mirrors the evolution of our well-being. It was once a risky luxury, often replaced by wine and beer to avoid cholera and typhoid. Then came glass, purification, and the distinction between ‘still’ and ‘sparkling’. Today, water does not just quench our thirst, it adds value to the dining experience.
